How we work

From a clear question to practical progress

Our approach starts with a clear understanding of the challenge and the outcome you want to achieve. We then explore whether our network can provide useful support.

Think Tank IGO provides advice only. It does not exercise government authority, award funding, procure services or undertake delivery as a contractor.
  1. 1

    Understand the challenge

Use the online form to explain what is happening, who is affected and what needs to change. We review the information and may ask questions about the local context, previous attempts and available resources.

  2. 2

    Identify the right expertise

Where we can help, we identify relevant specialists and potential partners. We consider their experience, availability and any interests that could affect the engagement.

  3. 3

    Agree a practical plan

Before work begins, we agree the scope, deliverables, responsibilities, fees and expected timing. We also define how progress will be assessed and what information the team will need.

  4. 4

    Present independent options

The assignment may include research, specialist advice, comparative analysis, scenario testing or a recommended policy pathway. Decision-making and implementation remain with the responsible institution.

  5. 5

    Review progress

We review agreed milestones with the client and relevant partners. As evidence or circumstances change, we help identify adjustments and the next practical steps.

Support online and across borders

Our planned online process will allow clients to submit challenges and experts to apply from around the world. After review, an agreed engagement may use online consultations, document exchange and progress discussions. The method of delivery will depend on the assignment.

Free access, transparent terms

Joining the expert network, submitting a challenge and an initial review are free. Some advisory work may be free or subsidized; where a commissioned assignment carries costs, all fees will be explained and agreed in advance.

Clear expectations

We assess requests individually. The scope of support depends on relevant expertise, available resources and the participation of the client and delivery partners. Introductions do not guarantee funding or project outcomes.
